The BURKERT Type 2031 (SKU 347923) is a 2/2-way piston-operated diaphragm valve featuring a pneumatic plastic actuator. This specific model is configured with a stainless steel body, weld end connections (DN 10, 17.2 mm outer diameter), and a PTFE diaphragm with an EPDM backing membrane. It operates with control function A (normally closed) and is designed for reliable operation in hygienic or aggressive environments. The flow-optimised valve body with minimal dead space enables high volume flow rates (Kv value 1.9 m³/h) and is fully CIP/SIP capable.

Installation and Self-Draining

The diaphragm valve can be installed in any position, preferably with the actuator facing up. To ensure optimum self-draining, the installer and operator must observe specific inclination angles.

  • Inclination angle of the pipeline: Recommended to follow the valid ASME BPE standard.
  • Self-draining angle for valve body: The marking for self-draining angles on the port connection serves as a guide and must point upwards. The actual angle must be set with a suitable measuring tool.

TIP

For leakage detection, one of the relief bores in the diaphragm bonnet must be at the lowest position. The relief bore must be regularly inspected for any medium leakages.

Maintenance and Diaphragm Replacement

The device actuator is maintenance-free if operated within specifications. Components subject to natural wear are the seals and the diaphragm.

  • After the first steam sterilisation and when required: Tighten the body screws crosswise.
  • After 10⁵ switching cycles at the latest: Check the diaphragm for wear. Shortened inspection intervals are required for muddy and abrasive media.

DANGER

Disassembling a pressurised device can cause medium to escape unexpectedly or a sudden discharge of pressure. Before disassembly, shut off the pressure, vent all lines, and completely drain the system.
