BURKERT 20014023 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island, 19mm, G 1/4

BURKERT Type 8640 modular valve island (model 20014023) for pneumatics. Features 19mm width per station, G 1/4 pressure port, 2-8 bar pressure range, and collective socket module.

BURKERT 20014023 Type 8640 Modular Valve Island, 19mm, G 1/4

BURKERT Type 8640 modular valve island (model 20014023) is designed to solve diverse and complex control problems due to its systematic modular construction and combination of pneumatic and electrical interfaces. By putting together a row of pneumatic modules with different numbers of valves, 2 to 24 valve functionalities may be realized on one valve unit. Bodies and connection modules are made of high-quality plastic (polyamide) and are easy to assemble by means of the built-in snap connectors.

BURKERT 20014023 Type 8640 modular valve island overview

This specific model features a 19 mm width per station and utilizes Type 5470 solenoid valves. It includes a collective socket module, G 1/4 pressure ports, and is designed for a 10-bank configuration.

Solenoid Valve Type 5470 (19 mm Width)

BURKERT 20014023 Type 5470 solenoid valve for 19mm station

The solenoid valve Type 5470 consists of a pneumatic valve body fitted with a Type 6106 rocker pilot valve. An armature with a tilting bearing, similar to a rocker, tilts within the body of the pilot valve, and switches the valve. The minimal tilting movement of the rocker is non-wearing, and basic lubrication is unnecessary.

  • Type 5470 R is available as a 3/2 and 4/2-way valve.
  • The valves can be mounted together individually using the module flange. In various applications, they can be used advantageously as valve blocks.

Structure of solenoid valve type 5470:

  1. Pilot valve Type 6106
  2. Exhaust port 3
  3. Pressure port 1
  4. Working port 4
  5. Working port 2
  6. Manual override
  7. Cable plug Type 2506

Manual Override

BURKERT 20014023 manual override of solenoid valve type 5470

To operate the valve manually, press the manual override and turn it 90° clockwise (until it stops). The manual override is locked and does not reset automatically.

WARNING

Only operate the manual override when the power is off.

Installation

DANGER

Risk of injury due to high pressure and escaping medium. Switch off the pressure before working on the device or system. Vent or drain the pipes.

Risk of injury due to electric shock. Switch off voltage before working on the device or system. Secure against reactivation.

Installing Multiple Blocks

BURKERT 20014023 example of a multi-block installation

  1. Begin installation with connection module on the left.
  2. Check modules for complete installation with 2 O-rings each.
  3. Lightly oil or grease all O-rings before engaging.
  4. Engage the lower latch hooks of the module to be attached in the latch grooves of the preceding module. Make sure that the O-rings are properly seated.
  5. Press the module to be locked upwards slightly and engage the upper latch hook.
  6. Insert 3 O-rings into the recess on the back of the valve and ensure that the seal is properly fitted.

WARNING

Crushed O-rings and profile seals lead to leaky blocks.

Fasten each valve to the base module with 2 screws. Recommended tightening torque 0.6 ±0.1 Nm.

Valve Block Installation

Standard rail installation:

  • Hook the valve block with the upper groove into the standard rail (35 x 15 or 35 x 7.5 EN 50022).
  • Snap the lower clamping pieces into the standard rail.
  • Tighten the screws on the clamping pieces.

Wall installation:

  • Fasten the valve block directly to the wall with M4 screws.

Tightening Torques for Port Connections

Observe the following tightening torques when screwing into the port connections. The specified tightening torque may vary depending on the sealing system.
