BURKERT 20043587 (Type 6213 EV) is a normally closed 2/2-way servo-assisted diaphragm valve featuring a G 1/2 brass body, DN 13 orifice, 12 V DC operation, 0–10 bar pressure range, and EPDM seals.

BURKERT 20043587 Type 6213 EV Servo-Assisted 2/2-Way Diaphragm Solenoid Valve, G 1/2 Brass 12V DC

BURKERT 20043587 (Type 6213 EV) is a servo-assisted 2/2-way diaphragm valve with a brass body, G 1/2 threaded process connections, and an EPDM sealing system. The valve utilizes a spring coupling between the solenoid armature and the diaphragm to assist opening. Article 20043587 is configured for direct-current operation at 12 V DC with an operating pressure rating of 0 to 10 bar (PN 10) and a nominal orifice of 13 mm (1/2 inch).

BURKERT 20043587 Type 6213 EV servo-assisted diaphragm valve overview

With a water flow coefficient (Kv) of 3.6 m³/h and a nominal air flow rate (QNn) of 3,900 l/min, this valve provides high fluid throughput within a compact 58 mm installation length. The soft-closing damped design limits pressure surges during actuation. Media-wetted components comply with drinking water contact requirements under WRAS/WRC and UBA assessment guidelines.

Circuit Function and Operating Principle

Article 20043587 operates according to circuit function A (CF A). It is a 2/2-way valve that remains closed when de-energized.

BURKERT 20043587 circuit function A 2/2-way normally closed schematic

In the de-energized state, the pilot core closes the pilot control orifice (1.1 mm diameter). Upstream pressure accumulates above the diaphragm through a small control bypass, pressing the diaphragm against the valve seat. When energized by a 12 V DC electrical signal, the magnetic core lifts, opening the pilot orifice and venting the chamber above the diaphragm. The elastic spring coupling between the plunger and the diaphragm supports the lifting movement, opening the valve across the main orifice.

Differential Pressure Requirements

The spring-assisted diaphragm design initiates opening without differential pressure. Opening the full valve cross-section requires a minimum differential pressure of 0.5 bar. For gas and vacuum applications without differential pressure, the specialized HP00 variant is recommended by Bürkert.

Duty Cycle and Thermal Behaviour

The solenoid actuator is rated for 100% continuous duty (ED). Continuous energization produces surface heating. Keep the valve body away from combustible materials and avoid touching uninsulated surfaces during operation.

Installation and Commissioning Guidelines

Pressure and Electrical Safety

  • Relieve pipeline pressure and vent fluid lines completely before loosening fittings or servicing the valve.
  • Switch off the electrical power supply and secure it against reactivation before handling wiring or the coil assembly.
  1. Mounting Position: Install the valve in any spatial orientation. Mounting upright with the solenoid actuator on top is recommended to minimize particulate settling in the core guide tube.
  2. Pipeline Cleanliness: Flush supply lines thoroughly prior to mounting. Install an upstream dirt trap or strainer with a mesh size ≤ 500 µm to prevent blockage of the pilot channel.
  3. Body Piping: Check the flow direction arrow cast into the brass body. Use an open-end wrench on the body flats (SW 27 mm). Do not use the solenoid housing as a lever arm.
  4. Wiring the Cable Plug: Insert the connector seal and tighten the central plug screw to a maximum torque of 1 Nm. Connect the protective ground conductor (PE) and check electrical continuity between the solenoid ground terminal and the brass valve body.

Solenoid Mounting and Tightening Torques

  • Slide the coil over the core guide tube and secure it with the top fixing nut using an open-end wrench.
  • For coil size 6 (AC10 family, 40 mm width), tighten the nut to 5 Nm.
  • Do not over-tighten or continue to rotate firmly seated nuts. Operating the solenoid without the valve body will cause rapid coil overheating and destruction.
