BURKERT 462468 Type 0131 Direct-Acting 2/2-Way Solenoid Valve, PVC NPT 1/2

BURKERT 462468 (Type 0131) is a 2/2-way direct-acting media-separated solenoid valve with PVC body, EPDM seals, NPT 1/2 ports, DN 15 orifice, 0-1 bar operating pressure, and 24 V AC/DC Kick and Drop coil.

BURKERT 462468 Type 0131 Direct-Acting 2/2-Way Solenoid Valve, PVC NPT 1/2

BURKERT 462468 (Type 0131) is a direct-acting, media-separated 2/2-way toggle solenoid valve configured with circuit function A (normally closed). Built with a rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) valve body, ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) seals, and female NPT 1/2 process connections, the valve is engineered for controlling and shutting off aggressive or non-aggressive media without metallic fluid contact. The 15 mm nominal orifice provides a water flow rate (Kv) of 4.5 m³/h and an air flow rate (QNn) of 4,800 l/min across an operating pressure range from 0 bar up to 1 bar, with full technical vacuum capability.

The electromagnetic actuator features an epoxy-encapsulated Class H coil system with integrated "Kick and Drop" electronics operating on 24 V AC/DC. The internal circuit delivers a 100 W high-power inrush pulse to actuate the stainless steel plunger, dropping holding power to 9 W after pull-in to minimize electrical power consumption and internal coil heating. Media separation is achieved via an internal diaphragm barrier that isolates the actuator assembly from corrosive line chemicals. The assembly includes an integrated manual override with a 90° turn-lock mechanism for manual operation during commissioning and servicing.

Circuit Function and Media Separation

BURKERT 462468 operates in Circuit Function A (CF A). When unpowered, the internal valve seat remains closed by spring and toggle force. Energizing the 24 V solenoid lifts the plunger, moving the toggle mechanism and opening the direct fluid path from inlet port 1 (P/NC) to the outlet port.

BURKERT 462468 circuit function A schematic symbol

The toggle pin transmits mechanical force from the dry core tube to the closing body across a flexible seal diaphragm. Because no process fluid enters the magnetic core chamber, aggressive process chemicals cannot corrode the metallic plunger or guide tube. With PVC body construction and EPDM elastomers, the valve handles alkalis, alkaline washing and bleaching solutions, water, and non-aggressive technical vacuum circuits up to 50 °C.

Electrical Connection and Electronics

Electrical interconnection is established through male plug contacts according to DIN EN 175301-803 Form A, designed to mate with cable plugs such as BURKERT Type 2518. When properly mated and fastened with the central retaining screw (maximum torque 1 Nm), the assembly provides IP65 environmental ingress protection.

Energy-Saving Kick and Drop Technology

The integrated UC electronics deliver full inrush power (100 W) for fast, positive armature attraction during the first switching phase. Power then drops automatically to 9 W hold mode. The circuit includes a resettable internal temperature protection switch that safely shuts down the coil if impermissible heating occurs during excessive switching frequency.

Continuous Operation Recommendation

During prolonged continuous operation or long periods of inactivity, operate the valve at least 1 to 2 times per day to ensure functional safety and prevent seal adhesion.

Installation and Manual Override

Prior to piping installation, flush lines thoroughly to remove foreign debris. Always mount an upstream particulate strainer (filter rating ≤ 500 µm) ahead of the valve inlet.

Installation Guidelines

  • Do not use the solenoid coil as a lever arm when tightening process connections.
  • Ensure the PVC valve body is mounted free of mechanical bending or tensile stress from adjacent pipework.
  • Verify process flow direction matches the flow markings on the valve body (P to A for NC).

BURKERT 462468 manual override locking operation

BURKERT 462468 includes a manual override mechanism on the valve body. To actuate manually, depress the override pin and rotate it 90° clockwise until it hits the mechanical stop.

Manual Override Interlock

When the manual override is locked in the operated position, the valve cannot be closed or actuated electrically. Return the override to its neutral position before resuming electrical system control.

Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Spare Parts

Periodic maintenance involves verifying seal integrity, confirming tight mechanical connections, and verifying that the maximum fluid flow velocity of 2.5 m/s is not exceeded.
