BURKERT 20032698 Type 2100 is a pneumatically operated 2/2-way angle seat valve with DN40 ASME BPE weld ends, normally open control function B, stainless steel CF3M body, and PTFE seat rated to 25 bar.

BURKERT 20032698 (Type 2100) is a pneumatically operated 2/2-way angle seat valve of the ELEMENT series configured for decentralized process automation. This execution is supplied with control function B (normally open by spring force), port connection DN 40 (NPS 1 1/2") with weld ends compliant with ASME BPE and DIN 11866 Series C, a precision-cast CF3M stainless steel valve body, and a PTFE seat seal. The valve is engineered for operating pressures from 0.00 bar(g) up to 25.00 bar(g) and fluid temperatures ranging from -10.00 °C to +185.00 °C. It supports full CIP and SIP cleaning routines.

The angle seat construction combines high flow coefficients with a self-adjusting v-ring spindle packing gland. Integrated pilot air routing and seamless interfaces allow direct assembly of automation heads and position feedback modules without external tube loops, retaining enclosure protection to IP65/IP67 and NEMA 4X.

For DN40 with Actuator Size 70 (M):
BURKERT Type 2100 with Control Function B is normally open in the de-energized rest state. The actuator internal springs push the spindle and seal disk upward away from the valve seat. Operating medium entering below the seat assists opening.

To close the valve, pilot pressure is applied to pilot air port 1 on top of the actuator piston, overcoming spring force and fluid pressure to seal against the orifice. When pilot air is vented, spring force immediately returns the valve to its open state.
Operating Safety: Flow Direction
Valves specified with flow direction below the seat (flow to open) prevent water hammer in liquid applications. Do not reverse flow over the seat when conveying liquid media; liquid pressure surges above the seat can cause rupture of piping and valve equipment.
Operating pressure ratings are bounded by the nominal pressure curve according to DIN EN 12516-1 (PN25) and ASME B16.34 (Class 150):
| Temperature [°C] | DIN EN 12516-1 / PN25 [bar] | ASME B16.34 / Class 150 [bar] | JIS B 2220 10K [bar] |
|---|---|---|---|
| -10...+38 | 25.0 | 19.0 | 14.0 |
| +50 | 25.0 | 18.4 | 14.0 |
| +100 | 24.5 | 16.2 | 14.0 |
| +150 | 22.4 | 14.8 | 13.4 |
| +185 | 21.0 | 14.1 | 12.8 |
| +200 | 20.3 | 13.7 | 12.4 |
| +230 | 19.0 | 12.7 | 11.7 |
Prior to welding the valve body into the process line, the actuator assembly must be separated from the body to protect the internal seals from excessive heat.
Welding Disassembly
Because 20032698 is configured as Control Function B, the valve is held open by spring force in its unpressurized state. The actuator can be unscrewed directly from the body connection using an open-end wrench across the body interface flats without applying pilot pressure.

The pneumatic ports can be rotated 360° to facilitate pipe routing. Hold the body hexagon flat stationary with an open-end wrench while turning the actuator hex nut clockwise as viewed in the technical diagram. Turning in the wrong direction may loosen the body connection.

During routine service, inspect the following critical points for external leakage:
| Fault Condition | Probable Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Actuator fails to close | Pilot air connected to incorrect port | Connect pilot pressure to port 1. |
| Pilot pressure insufficient | Verify minimum pilot air requirement on the device diagram. | |
| Operating fluid pressure too high | Check line pressure against valve maximum rating. | |
| Reverse flow orientation | Confirm medium flows into port 1 and below seat as marked. | |
| Seat leakage in closed position | Pilot pressure too low | Increase pilot control pressure within rated envelope. |
| Debris caught between seat and disk | Flush line and install an upstream strainer. | |
| Worn PTFE seat seal | Replace the swivel plate and seat assembly. | |
| Medium leaking from relief bore | Spindle packing gland worn | Replace the PTFE packing gland kit using tool 683221. |
