BURKERT 20142287 (Type 2101) Pneumatically Operated 2/2-Way Globe Valve

Bürkert 20142287 (Type 2101) is a pneumatically operated 2/2-way globe valve specially optimised for decentralised process automation. It meets all practical requirements even under difficult operating conditions. Its unique design allows easy integration of automation units in all expansion stages, from electrical/optical position feedback to pneumatic control and integrated fieldbus interface. Maximum service life and tightness are achieved by the proven self-adjusting v-seal packing gland. The highly integrated system of valve and automation unit is characterised by its compact and smooth design, integrated pilot air ducts, protection classes IP65/67, NEMA Type 4X, and high resistance to chemicals.

The specific model 20142287 features a DN100 nominal size with a 114.3 mm weld end connection, a stainless steel body, a PTFE seat seal, and a PPS actuator. It operates with a control function A (normally closed) and is suitable for medium temperatures from -10 °C to +185 °C and operating pressures up to 6 bar.

Structure and Function

The globe valve consists of a pneumatically actuated piston actuator and a 2-way body. The actuator is made from polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) or stainless steel (for actuator size 225).

Control Functions

Depending on the variant, the valve seat is closed in the direction of or against the medium flow. Spring force (CFA) or pneumatic pilot pressure (CFB and CFI) generate the closing force on the swivel plate. A spindle connected to the actuator piston transmits the force.

  • Control function A (CFA): Pneumatically operated 2/2-way on/off valve. Normally closed by spring force.
  • Control function B (CFB): Pneumatically operated 2/2-way on/off valve. Normally opened by spring force.
  • Control function I (CFI): Actuating function via reciprocal pressurisation.

WARNING

For control function I – risk of pilot pressure failure. With control function I, the control unit and reset are pneumatic. No defined position is reached during a pressure failure. To ensure a controlled restart of the device, first apply pilot pressure and then activate the medium.

Flow Direction Below Seat

Depending on the variant, the valve is closed against the medium flow either with spring force (control function A) or pilot pressure (control function B or I). As the medium is present under the swivel plate, the operating pressure contributes to the opening of the valve.

Flow Direction Above Seat

The valve is closed with the medium flow via spring force (control function A). Because the operating pressure is above the swivel plate, it helps the valve close and also contributes to sealing the valve seat. The valve opens via pilot pressure.

DANGER

Risk of injury from pressure surge. A pressure surge could cause lines and the device to burst. Because of the risk of pressure surge, valves with the flow direction above the seat must not be used for liquid mediums. Do not use valves with flow above the seat for liquid mediums.

Installation Notes

  • The installation location must be easily accessible and provide sufficient clearance for installation, removal, and maintenance of the device.
  • Use suitable lifting gear to lift a heavy device.
  • Only lift heavy valves by the valve body and pneumatic actuator, not by the control unit.
  • Ensure that the pipes are aligned before connecting the valve.
  • Observe the direction of flow and the information on the type label.
  • The globe valve can be installed in any position, preferably with the actuator facing upwards.
