TLV JL9X / JLH9X Process Float Steam Trap, High-Capacity

TLV JL9X and JLH9X high-capacity process float steam traps with thermostatic air venting. Cast iron or cast steel body, up to 3.2 MPaG, inline repairable.

TLV JL9X / JLH9X Process Float Steam Trap, High-Capacity

TLV JL9X and JLH9X inline repairable process float steam traps with thermostatic air vent (X-element) are suitable for large-capacity applications with operating pressures up to 3.2 MPaG (450 psig), such as large process and heating equipment. These traps discharge condensate continuously and automatically at a temperature slightly lower than saturation temperature.

Features

  • Extremely durable, inline-repairable, compact float trap with thermostatic air venting for large process or heating equipment.
  • Double-seated valve with heat-treat hardened valve seat and valve head provides continuous, smooth, low-velocity condensate discharge as process loads vary.
  • Self-aligning valve mechanism with stainless steel internals minimizes wear.
  • Thermostatic capsule (X-element) with "fail open" feature vents air automatically until close-to-steam temperature.
  • Easy, inline access to internal parts simplifies cleaning and reduces maintenance costs.
  • High-quality stainless steel internals and hardened valve surfaces ensure reliability.

Installation and Piping

Piping Guidelines

  • Install a bypass valve and inlet and outlet isolation valves for use in the event of trap failure or when performing maintenance.
  • Install a strainer (40 – 60 mesh) ahead of the trap.
  • The trap should be inclined no more than 5° horizontally and front-to-back. Leave adequate clearance above the trap cover for maintenance.

Note: If the trap inlet pressure exceeds 0.7 MPaG (100 psig), in order to ensure that an increase in back pressure does not prevent the rated flow capacity from being achieved, increase the size of the piping immediately after the trap to 80 mm (6”).

Discharge Capacity

TLV JL9X JLH9X discharge capacity chart

  • Capacities are based on continuous discharge of condensate 6°C below saturated steam temperature.
  • Recommended safety factor: 1.5.

DANGER

NEVER apply direct heat to the float. The float may explode due to increased internal pressure, causing accidents leading to serious injury or property and equipment damage.
